Since 1982 the Lord has brought together an inter-faith group of volunteers and united them for the purpose of reaching out to serve those whose basic needs are greater than our own. By doing so, we share a small part of that with which God has richly blessed us. In 1982 a small core group of Christians at Santa Monica Vineyard began inspiring others to serve the ever-increasing number of homeless on the Westside by providing them with a Thanksgiving dinner. Last year our inter-faith group hosted one of the largest Thanksgiving Day events in Southern California with more than 2,100 meals served by over 1,200 volunteers, 200 blankets were distributed, hundreds of children's immunizations were given, 280 haircuts were given, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and UCLA doctors and nurses provided free consultation and literally two tons of clothing were distributed.
No other event on the Westside brings together such a wide collection of inter-faith organizations, companies and individuals. Participating in this event has forever changed the meaning of Thanksgiving for many of the volunteers and guests.
This year, participating organizations include: Vineyard Christian Fellowship Westside, Malibu Vineyard Christian Fellowship, Trinity Baptist Church, Community United Methodist Church of Pacific Palisades, Metro Church, St. Augustine by the Sea Episcopal Church, Oasis Christian Center, First Presbyterian Church, The Acts Church, Venice Free Methodist Church, Resurrection Life Fellowship, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica, Westwood United Methodist Church, St. John Presbyterian Church (LA), Culver City Presbyterian Church (CC) and HOLA (Heart of Los Angeles Youth).
The businesses from across the country that help to support this event have included, Kaufman & Broad, Watt Industries, Albertson's, Staples, The Carnations Company, Security First, Pioneer French Baking Company, Access Communications, Golden West Meats, Ocean Spray, Arigold Orange and Grapefruit Growers, Arrowhead Water, Starbucks, The Marriott Corporation, Merril Lynch, The Gap, HIS Productions, The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros. Studios, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Nike Corporation, CAM Distributors, Café Au Lait, Hallmark Incorporated, WNA Comet and many others.
